CWA Categories: Essay, Short Fiction, Poetry

Three paths, one stage — choose the form that fits your voice.

The Cosmopolitan Writing Award celebrates the full spectrum of student writing through three distinct categories. Each is evaluated by our AI panel using criteria tailored to the form, so your work is always judged in context.

Essay

The Essay category welcomes analytical, persuasive, personal, reflective, and narrative nonfiction. This is your space to argue, explore, reflect, or inform. Strong essays demonstrate clear reasoning, an original perspective, and polished prose.

Short Fiction

Original stories in any genre — realism, fantasy, sci-fi, historical, literary fiction, or anything in between. The AI evaluates narrative craft regardless of genre, so write the story that excites you.

Poetry

Free verse, formal verse, spoken-word style, experimental — all forms are welcome. Poetry submissions are evaluated on imagery, rhythm, emotional impact, and linguistic creativity.
