How to Submit Your Writing to CWA
A step-by-step guide to entering the Cosmopolitan Writing Award.
Submitting to the Cosmopolitan Writing Award is straightforward. Whether this is your first competition or your twentieth, our process is designed to be accessible for writers of all ages and experience levels.
Step 1: Choose Your Category
CWA accepts submissions in three categories:
- Essay — Analytical, persuasive, reflective, or narrative nonfiction
- Short Fiction — Original stories in any genre
- Poetry — Free verse, formal verse, or experimental forms
You may submit to multiple categories. Each submission is evaluated independently.
Step 2: Prepare Your Manuscript
- Write in English
- Ensure the work is original and your own
- Follow the word/line guidelines for your chosen category
- Include a title but do not include your name within the manuscript — submissions are evaluated anonymously by our AI panel
Step 3: Submit Online
Visit cosmopolitanwriting.org and follow the submission portal instructions. You'll need to:
- Create an account or log in
- Select your category
- Upload or paste your work
- Pay the $10 entry fee
- Confirm and submit
Step 4: Receive Confirmation
After submitting, you'll receive an email confirmation with your submission ID. Keep this for your records.
Important Dates
All submissions must be received by November 15, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted. Results will be announced by December 31, 2026. See the full timeline.
