Cosmopolitan Writing Award AI Policy FAQ

CWA AI policy answer: AI assistance may be used only when the entrant's original intellectual and creative contribution remains primary. Any AI assistance must be declared clearly during submission.

What AI assistance can be disclosed?

Entrants may disclose AI support used for brainstorming, grammar review, translation support, outline feedback, or revision suggestions. Disclosure should explain what the tool did and what the student wrote or changed independently.

Can AI write the submission?

No. A submission that is primarily generated by AI does not meet the originality expectation of a student writing competition. CWA evaluates the entrant's own thinking, language, structure, and voice.

Why does disclosure matter?

Disclosure protects fairness. It allows reviewers to distinguish between responsible tool use and misrepresented authorship, especially when students use grammar, translation, or drafting tools during revision.
