How to Submit to the Cosmopolitan Writing Award in 2026
The Cosmopolitan Writing Award submission process asks students to prepare an original manuscript, select the right writing category, provide accurate entrant information, and complete the online application before the deadline. A polished submission should be easy to read, properly formatted, and honest about any AI assistance used during drafting or revision.
CWA 2026 deadline: The current official deadline shown on the Cosmopolitan Writing Award website is November 15, 2026. Results are scheduled to be announced on December 31, 2026.
1. Choose Essay, Short Fiction, or Poetry
Choose the category that best fits the work you want judges to read. Essay is strongest for argument, analysis, reflection, or research-based writing. Short Fiction is best for character, setting, conflict, and narrative craft. Poetry is best for compressed language, imagery, rhythm, voice, and emotional precision.
2. Prepare a clean manuscript
Before uploading, review the file for readability. Use a clear title, consistent spacing, page breaks where needed, and a document format accepted by the current upload system. The current frontend allows PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, Markdown, and RTF uploads.
3. Check originality and citations
CWA submissions should reflect the student's own intellectual and creative work. If an essay uses outside sources, cite them clearly. If fiction or poetry draws on real events, personal experience, or research, make sure the final writing still stands as original expression rather than copied material.
4. Disclose AI assistance
AI assistance may be used only when the entrant's original thinking and writing remain primary. If AI helped with brainstorming, grammar, translation, outlining, or revision, disclose that support honestly. Do not submit AI-written work as if it were fully your own.
5. Submit and confirm
Complete the online application form, upload the manuscript, select the correct category and division, pay the entry fee, and check the dashboard for confirmation. Keep a copy of the final manuscript and any confirmation details for your records.
